Novak Djokovic secured a place in the semifinals after a hard-fought win against Sebastian Korda. The Serbian star demonstrated his skill and determination, overcoming a strong challenge from the young American in an intense battle.
The world number five fought back from a break down in the second set to secure a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) victory.
At 37 years old, he has become the oldest player to reach the semifinals of an ATP Masters 1,000 event and is aiming for his seventh title in Miami.
Originally scheduled for Wednesday, the match was postponed to Thursday on short notice after Emma Raducanu’s quarter-final match ran past 23:00, exceeding the ATP’s cut-off time.
Despite Korda’s aggressive baseline play and impressive shot-making, Djokovic’s experience and composure made the difference. The 36-year-old remained resilient during crucial moments, ultimately sealing the victory.
“The match was rescheduled for today, and since it wasn’t too early, I was able to get some rest. I didn’t go to bed until 2:30 a.m., which threw off my body rhythm, so I’m just glad to have made it through.”
After the match, Djokovic described the win as “great,” praising Korda’s performance. “He played at a very high level, and I had to push myself to get through. I’m pleased with my game and looking forward to the next round,” he said.
Djokovic is set to take on Bulgarian 14th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinals on Friday as he aims for his 100th ATP title.
With this result, Djokovic moves closer to another title, further solidifying his legacy. As he prepares for the semifinals, tennis fans eagerly await his next challenge.
This marks Djokovic’s first semifinal appearance at the tournament since 2016. With top-10 seeds like Carlos Alcaraz, Jack Draper, and Daniil Medvedev already eliminated, the path has cleared for the Serbian to claim another Miami title.
