Many fans speculated whether Roger Federer would miss tennis after stepping away from the professional circuit. The former world No. 1 enjoyed an extensive career and never viewed the constant travel as a burden, even with a family that includes his wife and four children—who frequently joined him at tournaments.
Having dedicated himself fully to the sport, the 20-time Grand Slam winner officially ended his career at the 2022 Laver Cup, where he played a memorable doubles match with his longtime rival and close friend Rafael Nadal at London’s O2 Arena.
Tennis fans around the world wished his career could have gone on forever—a reflection of the tremendous influence the former Swiss champion had globally. But once he understood that his knee injury couldn’t be fully healed and returning to top-level competition was no longer possible, the King came to terms with the situation and embraced a new chapter of his life without looking back.
Federer Shares Insights Into His New Chapter
The Basel legend is now engaged in various ventures with his sponsors and his Foundation, while also dedicating time to his family and being actively involved in his children’s upbringing.
In a recent interview with Mercedes-Benz, one of his key sponsors, Federer opened up about life after tennis: “I’ve fully adjusted to my new life away from the professional circuit, and I have to admit, I’m really happy. I’ve had the chance to travel a lot with my family—something we’ve always dreamed of doing.”
We’ve always wanted to explore certain places without the pressure of training or competing. In some ways, I even wish I had retired earlier so I could have had more time to enjoy experiences like these.”
The former world No. 1 acknowledged that adjusting to a new routine wasn’t easy: “It took me a while to adapt to this new lifestyle, but now I feel completely in control. My boys are 11, and the girls will soon turn 16. This time has also helped us grow even closer as a family.”
