MADRID (AP) β Carlos Alcaraz stated on Tuesday that he is feeling well but will wait for the results of medical tests to determine if he will compete in the Madrid Open. The third-ranked Alcaraz required treatment on his upper right leg during his straight-set defeat to Holger Rune in the Barcelona Open final on Sunday.
“I feel physically fine,” the 21-year-old Spaniard said. “Iβve undergone tests, and weβll see what the results show. Iβm used to playing with discomfort, so I hope I can play and enjoy Madrid.”
Alcaraz, who claimed the Monte Carlo title earlier this month, is set to play his first match later this week, where he is seeded No. 2. He won the Madrid title in both 2022 and 2023 and is placed in the same half of the draw as three-time champion Novak Djokovic, the fourth seed.
Alexander Zverev, who surpassed Alcaraz for the No. 2 world ranking after his win in Munich last weekend, is the top seed in Madrid. Defending champion Andrey Rublev is seeded seventh.
